Build Back Better

Rebuild Kerala Development Programme

Post the 2018 floods, the State of Kerala decided to ‘Build Back Better’ a more resilient state for its citizens. A State with state-of-the-art infrastructure, and public and community services, which can withstand and recuperate from the shocks presented by climate adversities in the near future. To ‘Build Back Better’, the State requires major reforms in its institutional capacity, knowledge management, infrastructure development and other areas for the key sectors as identified in the Rebuild Kerala Development Programme.

Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to ‘Build Back Better’ in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, is one of the four priorities for action identified under Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development Goals. Medium to long term restoration activities are being founded in the principles of ‘Build Back Better’ with disaster and climate resilience approach to rebuilding activities.
