Chief Minister inaugurated Robotic surgery unit
Robotic surgery facility will be accessible to patients from all socio- economic backward sections of the State. It will reduce the cost of treatment and morbidity rate due to cancer. Robotic surgery eases procedures which are difficult to access by virtue of location in the human body and improve the quality of minimally invasive surgery in certain cases. It is advantages for patients as well as surgeons. The patients have the advantage of reduced pain, lower risk of infection and complications, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, less scarring due to smaller incisions and faster returns to normal activities. It allows a high degree of dexterity, allowing surgeons the ability to operate in very tight spaces in the body that would otherwise only be accessible through open (long incision) surgery. The cancers caused by infections such as Oropharyngeal cancer, Cervical cancer, Liver cancer etc can be managed efficiently with Robotic surgery. An amount of Rs. 30 Crores is allocated for Robotic surgery system from Rebuild Kerala Initiative. Shri. Kadakampally Surendran MLA, RCC Director Dr. Rekha S Nair, Additional Director, Dr. A. Sajeeth were participated.
